GITAM hosts Insightful Guest Lectures on Intellectual Property Rights and Dissolution Methodologies

GITAM School of Pharmacy organized two enlightening guest lectures on November 11, 2024, featuring esteemed speaker Dr. Umesh V. Banakar, a distinguished professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and an independent consultant/advisor to the pharmaceutical industry and academia.

The first lecture, titled “Intellectual Property Rights: Career in IP,” provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of intellectual property rights (IPR). Dr. Banakar elucidated the fundamental concepts of IPR, including its various types and the application protocols. He emphasized the significance of patents and copyrights, citing numerous instances of copyright infringement and violations of patent rules. Furthermore, he offered valuable insights into the myriad career opportunities available in the field of intellectual property, engaging the audience with a dynamic question-and-answer session following his presentation.

In the post-lunch session, Dr. Banakar delivered a second lecture on “Dissolution Methodologies: Challenges.” He delved into the core principles of dissolution, discussing the dissolution studies conducted on immediately released drugs and the challenges researchers face in executing these studies. This session provided the audience with critical knowledge essential for navigating the complexities of pharmaceutical research.

The event commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Bappaditya Chatterjee, Associate Professor at GITAM School of Pharmacy, who warmly introduced the guest speaker. Prof. G.S. Kumar, Principal of GITAM School of Pharmacy, Hyderabad, graciously felicitated Dr. Banakar and extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to all attendees for their participation.

The guest lectures garnered significant interest and were attended by faculty members, postgraduate students, research scholars, and undergraduate students, all eager to expand their knowledge in these crucial areas of pharmaceutical science.
