In chess, Grandmaster Aravindh Chithambaram defeated World No. 2 Arjun Erigaisi in round 6 of the Chennai Grand Masters 2024 yesterday. The victory ended Arjun Erigaisi’s unbeaten streak to throw open the Chennai Grand Masters title race.

Arjun and Levon Aronian now lead jointly with four points each, followed closely by Aravindh and Amin Tabatabaei, half a point behind.

While the other two matches ended in a draw with Alexy Sarana holding Maxime Vachier-Lagrave with black pieces and Amin failing to breach the defence of Parham Maghsoodloo on the first board.

In the Challengers category, Pranav Venkatesh continued to top the standings despite being held to a second successive draw after winning the first four rounds.
