Telangana: Comprehensive Family Survey Begins In State

In Telangana, the door-to-door comprehensive family survey, aiming at assessing the Social, Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste status of the people began across the state today.

About 85 thousand enumerators and 0ver 19 thousand supervisors have been deployed to collect the information from each household. The houses will be identified and marked with a sticker during the first three days and actual information from each household will be collected from 9th of this month.

Under the aegis of the state Planning Commission, the exercise will continue till the end of the month and analysing the data report will be submitted to the state Government after three weeks from then.

Holding the caste census was an election assurance given by the Congress party at the time of Assembly elections held last year.

The state Government and the ruling Congress party leaders are expecting that the data will help the state to deliver welfare and development schemes to the weaker sections while addressing the issues of inequalities, if any.

Though a few states have taken up such exercise, the Comprehensive survey that the Telangana state government has taken up is unique due to its lengthy and comprehensive data collection covering almost all aspects.

The questionnaire has over 50 questions in two major parts and some are having several sub questions, which will enable the enumerator to capture key elements of social, economic, education, income, political and caste information of all sections.

Besides the government machinery, the Congress leaders also will actively participate in the survey to motivate people and also to help the officials in conducting the survey.

The opposition leader in the Lok Sabha and Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi described the survey as Framework for Development and the Congress leaders are assuming that the Survey will become a role-model for the rest of the country in this regard.
