Hyderabad: GITAM Celebrates the 155th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
On October 2, 2024, GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, observed Gandhi Jayanti, marking the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. The event paid rich tribute to Gandhi’s enduring legacy of non-violence, truth, and simplicity, principles that continue to resonate with people globally.
The celebrations included, remembrance ceremonies that honored Gandhi’s pivotal role in India’s independence and his teachings. The university’s higher officials emphasized how his philosophy of non-violence not only transformed India’s freedom struggle but also inspired global movements for social justice and peace. They also highlighted that October 2 is recognized as the International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations, further cementing Gandhi’s worldwide influence.
The event was graced by esteemed members of the GITAM community, including Prof. D.S. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, DVVSR Varma, Resident Director, Prof. Motahar Reza, I/C Director of School of Science, Prof. G.A.Rama Rao, Former Principal, Prof. Bandan Kumar Mishra, Director of School of Architecture, and DVA Mohan, Estate Officer. They collectively reflected on Gandhi’s enduring impact, underscoring the relevance of his teachings in today’s world.
