Hyderabad: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan held at GITAM
In alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision and the Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata (4S) campaign, GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, organized a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 1, 2024, as part of the 10th-anniversary celebrations of the Swachh Bharat Mission. This initiative is part of the broader national campaign that began on September 17 and will culminate on October 2, commemorating Swachh Bharat Diwas and the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Department of Hospitality led the drive collaborating with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of GITAM Hyderabad, along with faculty, staff, and students, actively participated in the cleanliness drive, showcasing great enthusiasm. The event kicked off with an inspiring speech by Prof. D.S. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor of GITAM, Hyderabad, who urged everyone to contribute their efforts to make the drive a resounding success. He emphasized that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is not just about cleanliness but also about fostering responsibility and civic pride.
Following the speech, participants took a cleanliness pledge and began a large-scale cleaning drive, focusing on nearby roads, parks, and open spaces. The team worked diligently, cleaning the surroundings and maintaining the public areas around the campus, contributing to the overarching goals of the 4S campaign, which centers around public participation, awareness, mega cleanliness drives, and the welfare of sanitation workers.
Several key figures at GITAM joined in the effort, including Prof. Rama Sastry Vedala, Dean-Core Engineering and Director of GITAM School of Technology, DVVSR Varma, Resident Director, Ambika Philip, Deputy Director of Hospitality, and Dr. P.V. Nagendra Kumar, NSS Coordinator. They commended the efforts of the NSS volunteers and highlighted the importance of student cooperation in keeping the campus and its surroundings clean.
The event not only reinforced the significance of cleanliness and public health but also reflected GITAM’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and active community involvement in national campaigns.
