Kolkata: Agitation In West Bengal Asking Justice For Victim Of Kar Medical College
Women in Kolkata and several major towns and districts of West Bengal took to the streets around midnight last night to hold agitations and protest rallies demanding justice for the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. It was named “Women, reclaim the night”.
The call was given mainly to women to capture the roads and lanes but eventually men women all gathered on the streets. The call for protest garnered widespread support from almost all cross-sections of society.
People were demanding justice for the victim of the RG Kar Medical College case and stringent punishment for the culprits. People widely believe that more than one person were involved in the rape and murder case. Kolkata Police has arrested one Sanjay Roy in the case and he has been handed over to CBI.
Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: People Hit Streets In West Bengal Demanding Justice
People across all sections of society gathered on the streets of West Bengal to protest the brutal rape and murder of the doctor at R G Kar Medical College. When a large number of people were protesting outside RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata at midnight, a batch of goons attacked the protest Mancha of the doctors.
They were alleged to be disguised in the crowd. The goons destroyed the infrastructure, equipments, and medicines of the R G Kar Medical College and they also destroyed the male and female wards.
Initially, police who were present were forced to take shelter but later large force of police arrived at the place. Many police personnel were injured including the Deputy Commissioner (North) of Kolkata Police while controlling the goons. Many arrests were made by the police.
BJP and other political parties and common citizens and intelligentsia have strongly condemned the attack on the peaceful protesters at the RG Kar Medical College yesterday night.
Leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari has said in a social media message that the goons were affiliated to the ruling Trinamool Congress and they came intending to destroy the evidence of the murder case. He has appealed to the governor of West Bengal to intervene immediately in the matter.
TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee has also condemned the attack on the peaceful protesters at R G Kar Medical College in a social media message.
