Tamil Nadu: NABARD Chairman Shaji K.V. inaugurates exhibition-cum-sale of handloom products in Chennai on National Handloom Day
The five day Exhibition-cum-Sale of Handloom Productsfrom07th to 11th August 2024 hosted by NABARD, Tamil Nadu Regional Office at ‘Annai Teresa Mahalir Valagam’, Valluvar Kottam, Chennai-600034 was inaugurated by Shri Shaji K.V., Chairman, NABARD, on 07th August 2024.
In his address, Chairman explained the significance of National Handloom Day as it is a vital part of India’s socio-economic fabric. He encouraged the handloom weavers to participate in such events in order to get more exposure in marketing their products.
Shri R. Anand, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Smt. Jothi Srinivas, Shri Dr.P.S.Harikrishnaraj, General Managers, NABARD, and other staff members of NABARD Tamil Nadu Regional Office were also present on the occasion. This event aims to showcase the rich and diverse handloom heritage of South India and provide a platform for artisans and weavers to display their craftsmanship.
Also, an MoU was signed between Tamil Nadu Food Processing and Agri Export Promotion Corporation (TNAPEx) and NABARD to promote Rural Enterprises in Tamil Nadu in the presence of Chairman, NABARAD.
Chairman launched the following products/activities of Madurai Agribusiness Incubation Forum (MABIF) , Madurai – a rural & agri startup incubation centre promoted by NABARD:-
MABIF Mart, Shop GI an exclusive e-commerce platform for GI products, M2N Mart (Morning to Night MART), Gho Paints, Beeda Palm and Betel Drops from betel leaf (GI tagged products), Pumpkin brown cake and Banana Chips.
An MoU was exchanged in the presence of Chairman, NABARD between Sangai Gomathi Farmer Producer Organisation and Startup, Vaayuratha PrivateLimited to avail the drone services for agriculture application.
Chairman, NABARD, handed over a Cheque for Rs.6.63 lakh to Avinashi FPCI, promoted by MABIF for developing FPO Mobile App for business services.
Products on display-cum-sales at the exhibition are, Pure Handloom Silk sarees, Thirubhuvanam Handloom silk sarees, Kalamkari Sarees, Cotton Sarees, Paramakudi Sarees, Pochampally Ikkat, Home Décor, Jute & Cotton Products, Millet Snacks, Organic Food Products, Artificial Jewellery, Aromatic Products, etc. NABARD has invited the public to visit the stalls and support the Weavers and Artisans across South India.
