MoS Railways V. Somanna Flags off SMVT Bengaluru – Kalaburagi Vande Bharat Express with Addl Stoppage at Yadgir Station

Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways flagged off Train No. 22232 SMVT Bengaluru – Kalaburagi Vande Bharat Express with Additional stoppage at Yadgir Railway station on 03rd August, 2024 (through remote video link from Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager’s Office). Simultaneously a regional function held at Yadgir Railway Station wherein Shri Sharanagowda Kandakur, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly, Gurmitkal, Shri R. Dhananjayulu, Additional General Manager, SCR, M. Vijay Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Guntakal Division and other railway officials participated in the program.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri V. Somanna stated that it is a happy day for the people of the region as this is the first Vande Bharat Express for the people of Yadgir district. He informed that the indigenously developed train has several world-class features which provide better riding comfort and more safety features. Further, he stated that the train has been equipped with advanced safety features like Kavach – Automatic Train Protection System. The Hon’ble Minister of State said that the train also provides convenient travel facility to the people of Yadgir to travel to shorter distances like Kalaburagi, Raichur, Mantralayam, Guntakal and back with convenient day journey timings.

He also stated that, during the UPA period (2009-14), the annual average grant was
Rs. 835 crore, whereas this year 2024-25 the grant is Rs. 7560 crores (an average increase of
9 times). During the current year 2024-25 the budget grant for Indian Railways sanctioned is
Rs. 2.62 Lakh Crore. During 2004-14, only 312 Kms of Doubling rail lines were laid. Whereas in the last 10 yrs i.e., 2014 – 2024 period 1270 kms of doubling works have been completed. All the major routes of Karnataka have been doubled, he added. 

Hon’ble Minister said that in Karnataka, already 90% of electrification completed. In the last 10 years, 31 thousand kms of railway lines have been laid in India. In 2014-15, on an average
four Kms of railway tracks per day was laid, while in 2023-24, on an average 14.5 kms of railway track per day has been laid. In Karnataka, all the unmanned level crossing gates have been eliminated. Since 2014 till date 534 ROBs/RUBs have been constructed to facilitate smooth traffic.

In the last 10 years, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given top priority to the development of railways and strived to take it to the world class. This government has provided five lakh jobs in railway department during last 10 years. All the appointments have been made through fair and transparent recruitment process. For the convenience of common people, an action plan has been drawn by the Ministry of Railways to manufacture Ten thousand General class coaches to facilitate comfortable travel to general class passengers.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion Shri Sharanagowda Kandakur thanked Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways for providing stoppage at Yadgir Station for prestigious Kalaburagi-SMVT Bengaluru-Kalaburagi Vande Bharat Express which was a long-cherished aspiration of the people of Yadgir. The Express will provide convenient and comfortable day journey to Bengaluru.

Features of provision of stoppage for Vande Bharat Express at Yadgir

  • First Vande Bharat Express for Yadgir station to travel to Bengaluru
  • The train starts early in the morning at 05.55 hrs towards Bengaluru and in the return journey it reaches at 21.45 hrs towards Kalaburagi.
  • The train runs for 6 days in a week except Friday from Kalaburagi and except Thursday from Bengaluru.
  • This train offers a day journey with complete sitting AC accommodation in AC Chair Car and Executive Class coaches.
  •  Convenient train schedule for the public of Yadgir to travel to capital city region of Karnataka and return back.
