Widespread Rainfall Hits Gujarat Since Morning
Gujarat is experiencing widespread rainfall since morning. More than 150 tehsils of the state recorded light to very heavy rainfall till 12 a.m. in the morning. Borsad in Anand district recorded the highest 12.50 inches of rainfall today. Following the incessant rains in Saurashtra and South Gujarat region since a week, the state has received nearly 48 percent of the average seasonal rainfall so far.
South Gujarat is witnessing heavy rainfall since morning whereas rain intensity has reduced in Saurashtra region however Devbhoomi Dwaraka district is still affected with floods due to waterlogging. Several parts of South Gujarat region especially Bharuch, Narmada districts have been experiencing heavy rainfall since morning.
Nearly 12 villages are out of contact and several roads have been closed for traffic in Bharuch district since morning. Several trains passing from Bharuch have been regulated due to waterlogging on tracks. Schools and colleges will remain closed today in Navsari, Surat and Bharuch district.
Water level is rising in local rivers including Damanganga, Purna and major dams such as Sardar Sarovar, Karjan and Ukai. Meanwhile, normal life is still affected in flood-hit Devbhoomi Dwaraka district in Saurashtra region. Several dams in Saurashtra including Vartu dam in Devbhoomi Dwarka have been put on high alert.
Meanwhile IMD has predicted widespread rainfall in the state over the next three days. Red alert of heavy to heavy rainfall has been issued for seven districts in South Gujarat and Saurashtra region of including Surat, Devbhoomi Dwaraka, and Valsad.
