Sikkim: Massive Landslide Strikes North Sikkim, Three Killed

A massive and devastating landslide has struck the areas around Mangan and various locations in North Sikkim following incessant rainfall since yesterday.

The tragic incident led to the loss of three lives, destruction of houses, and the displacement of families.

Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang has communicated with the North district administration, police department, and relevant departments to ensure a swift and comprehensive response.  

Mr Tamang said that efforts are being made to provide every possible support to the victims and affected families, including recovery assistance, temporary settlement, and the provision of basic needs.

Chief Minister expresses his sadness on the natural calamities that have hit many parts of North Sikkim.

He writes:

“I am deeply shocked and saddened to know about the massive and devastating landslide that struck the areas around Mangan, and various locations in North Sikkim, following incessant rainfall since yesterday. This devastating incident has resulted in the tragic loss of lives, the sweeping away of houses, and the displacement of families.

I have communicated with the North district administration, police department, and concerned departments to ensure a swift and comprehensive response. They are committed to providing every possible support to the victims and affected families for their recovery, temporary settlement, and restoration, as well as basic needs.

The government stands firmly with the victims of this unfortunate incident and will render the utmost support to the bereaved families and all those affected and displaced by the landslide.

Meanwhile, I am in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, attending the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu Ji and the Cabinet of the Arunachal Pradesh Government. I will return soon to personally oversee and address the needs and sufferings of our dear people of Sikkim.”
