In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by four runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, US last night.

Opting to bat first, South Africa scored 113 for 6 in the stipulated 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen, with 46 runs from 44 balls was the top scorer for the Proteas. For Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged three wickets.

While chasing the target of 114, Bangladesh could score only 109 for seven in 20 overs. They needed 11 runs in the last over. However, Keshav Maharaj restricted Bangladesh to fall just 4 runs short of their target.

Maharaj scalped three wickets, while Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets each.

Today, Pakistan will take on Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Pakistan is still striving for a victory in the tournament, having suffered defeats against the arch-rival India and the newcomers, the USA, in their preceding matches.

While, Canada defeated Ireland by 12 runs in their last match.

Popular for their lack of luck in ICC tournaments, South Africa have, finally managed to turn the tide. Last week they found themselves in a bit of pickle at 12/4, chasing 104 against Netherlands and today was no different either. Opting to bat, they lost their top 4 inside 5 overs pretty cheaply, but managed to clinch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Much like their opponents, Bangladesh, too, lost their top 4 fairly cheaply and needed a partnership to put things back on track. Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah got together for the 5th wicket and added 44 to steer Bangladesh close to the victory line. In fact, they needed just 20 off 18 with 6 wickets in hand.

The 18th over from Rabada, however, shifted the balance completely as he managed to remove the dangerous-looking Hridoy and conceded just 2. With lack of pace options, Markram trusted Maharaj to do the job in the final over and thanks to his luck (3 full tosses), Proteas managed to steal the contest to make it 3/3 in the tournament.
