LS Polls: Campaigning for 94 constituencies ends ahead of 3rd phase of polling
The campaigning for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections came to an end on Sunday, ahead of the voting scheduled on May 7. In this phase, 94 constituencies across 12 states/Union territories will go to the polls.
The deadline for filing nominations for this phase was April 19. The end of the campaigning marks the commencement of a 48-hour silence period.
The first phase of the polling on April 19 covered 102 constituencies across 21 states and UTs, while the second phase on April 26 covered 89 constituencies across 13 states/UTs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were among the prominent campaigners for the BJP, while Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge canvassed for the Congress party.
On May 7, voters will decide the fate of several key contenders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Samjawadi Party MP Dimple Yadav.
In the NCP stronghold of Baramati, a fierce contest is set to unfold between two members of the Pawar family: party leader Sharad Pawar’s daughter and incumbent MP Supriya Sule, and Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister and Sharad Pawar’s nephew, Ajit Pawar.
The Lok Sabha elections are being held across seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The counting is scheduled on June 4.
