In the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, more than 67 percent (67.08%) of the voting took place in a total of six parliamentary constituencies. The highest voter turnout was 79.18 percent in Chhindwara, and the lowest, 55.19 percent, was recorded in Sidhi. More than 70 percent of votes were cast in Mandla and Balaghat too. In some Naxal-affected areas, voters created history.

In the Naxal-affected Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, voting ended two hours earlier than in other parliamentary constituencies due to security reasons. However, there were some polling stations where 100 percent of the voting took place in the first two hours themselves. In Duglai of the Baihar Assembly and Sonwani of the Balaghat Assembly, 100 percent of the voting took place at 9 a.m.

On the other hand, yesterday was the last day for filing nomination papers for the third phase in Madhya Pradesh. Overall, 144 candidates have filed 223 nomination papers for eight Lok Sabha seats. While in the fourth and final phase for the state, sixteen nomination papers have been filed so far.”
