Delhi: SC issues notice to ED on CM Arvind Kejriwal’s petition

Supreme Court on Monday (15th April 2024) issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. Mr. Kejriwal had filed the petition seeking his release from custody in relation to the alleged Delhi excise scam case.

The apex court will hear the case again on 29th April and has refused to consider the plea for an interim release without waiting for ED’s reply. SC bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta heard the matter on Monday (15th April 2024).

Also in the day, Delhi Rouse Avenue Court extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till April 23rd. The AAP leader appeared before the court through virtual conference. The court noted that the judicial custody of co-accused, K. Kavitha is also extended till April 23rd.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21st and then produced before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, which initially remanded him to ED custody till March 28th. The ED’s custody was later extended till 1st of April. Thereafter, he was sent to judicial custody till 15th April. He is currently remanded at Tihar Jail.
