Hyderabad: GITAM hosts ‘Cinematic Lighting’ workshop
The Department of Media Studies & Visual Communications at GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHS) organized a dynamic workshop on ‘Cinematic Lighting’ in collaboration with Aputure India. Held on April 3, 2024, the event was a significant opportunity for students to delve into the intricacies of lighting in filmmaking.
Renowned Director of Photography (DoP) & Virtual Cinematographer, Jagadeesh Bommisetti, graced the occasion as the main resource person. With his wealth of experience, he emphasized the pivotal role of lighting in cinematography, highlighting its ability to evoke mood and emotion effectively. Bommisetti elucidated that lighting serves as the soul of each frame, underscoring its importance in storytelling.

The workshop offered a blend of theoretical insights and practical demonstrations, allowing participants to enhance their skills and grasp the nuances of lighting design for cinematic purposes. Through real-world examples and hands-on activities, students gained invaluable knowledge on producing compelling lighting setups for their film projects.
The session covered various aspects of lighting workflows, including intelligent lighting techniques and color grading, providing participants with comprehensive guidance on crafting visually captivating narratives. Overall, the workshop aimed to empower students with the essential tools and techniques necessary to excel in the field of filmmaking.
Earlier, Prof. Sunny Gosman Jose, Director-GSHS inaugurated this workshop by lighting the lamp. He felicitated the guest Jagadeesh, as well as Shynu Madhu, Regional Sales Manager, Aputure India. B.Sujeevan Kumar, Assistant Professor, coordinated this program, and Nandini, a student performed the classical dance.
