ED Arrests Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in alleged Liquor Scam Case

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an alleged liquor scam case. The agency arrested Mr Kejriwal from his residence to its office in New Delhi last night.

A team of ED reached the Chief Minister’s residence in the evening and carried out searches. The arrest came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to Kejriwal from any coercive action by the agency.

The ED had named Mr Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy linked money laundering case and had sent nine summons to him to appear before it. However, Mr Kejriwal skipped all summons terming them illegal and politically motivated.
Meanwhile, Aam Admi Party has moved the Supreme Court for quashing the arrest of Mr Kejriwal and asked for an urgent hearing by the Supreme Court.

Reacting to action, Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, this is a process of law which is being done with a view to take appropriate action against corruption. He said, let the law take its course.

Delhi Court refuses to grant protection from arrest to Delhi CM Kejriwal

Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to grant protection from arrest to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case. A bench headed by justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain said, the court is not inclined to grant relief to Mr Kejriwal at this stage.

The Delhi Chief Minister moved the court in the wake of the ninth summons issued by the ED, asking him to appear before it today. Mr Kejriwal has repeatedly refused to appear before the agency, calling the summons illegal. The next hearing of the application has been listed on April 22.
