Visakhapatnam: Indira Gandhi Zoo Park celebrates ‘International Day of Forests’ in association with ICFRE-CEC-EGBC

On the occasion of International Day of Forests on March 21, 2024 Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education – Coastal Ecosystem Centre (ICFRE-CEC), and the Eastern Ghats Biodiversity Centre, has hosted a unique program named FOREST EXPO, dedicated to the awareness and conservation of forests, seed diversity, mangrove ecosystems, and forest products. Under the theme “Forests and Innovation:

New Solutions for a Better World” this year’s event was aimed at highlighting the role of forests in protecting our planet’s biodiversity. The event showcased an impressive display of various seeds and mangrove species, Plantable pots, Natural color block print etc.

Through this displays, visitors were provided with an opportunity to understand the forest ecosystems, the benefits of mangroves in coastal protection, and the necessity of conserving these habitats. Today’s celebration is not just about information sharing, but a call to action, said Dr. Nandani Salaria, IFS, Curator, IGZP.

In our collaboration with ICFRE-CEC, and the Eastern Ghats Biodiversity Centre, we aim to ignite a spark of responsibility in every individual towards conserving our forests and ensuring a good future with nature for the coming generation, she added.

The curator said that the expo will continue till Sunday (March 24) to create more awareness among the visitors. Smt. Mangamma, DCF, IGZP, Assistant Curator Sri. B. Gopi, Forest Section Officer Sri. Rajeswara Rao, Zoo education team participated in the program.
