Indian Coast Guard rescues 8 crew members of distressed fishing boat Ajmer-i Langavit at Kundapura
New Delhi, 21 Mar 24: Indian Coast Guard Mangalore DHQ received a distress call at 1300 hrs on 20 Mar 24 from Coastal Security Police, Udupi regarding distress situation onboard fishing boat Ajmeer-I in position nine miles West of Kundapura. The vessel, owned by Mr. Pyaru S Kalmady and manned by a crew of eight, was facing a flooding emergency. In response, Coast Guard ship Rajdoot, on patrol was promptly diverted for Search and Rescue.
At 1400 hrs, ICGS Rajdoot arrived on scene and located and boarded the distressed boat. The ship’s team noticedserious ingress of seawater in the engine room compartment of the boat. Fortunately, all crew members were found to be safe. The Coast Guard Ship’s Damage Control Party started emergency action of de-flooding the compartment using submersible pumps.

At 1540 hrs, another fishing boat Gold Fish arrived for additional support with two pumps to augment the de-flooding efforts. Subsequently, at about 1600 hrs, fishing boatAjmeer-I was towed by IFB Gold Fish under the watchful escort of ICGS Rajdoot, heading towards Gangoli Fishing Harbour, Karnataka.
By 1810 hrs, both fishing boats safely reached Gangoli Fishing Harbour, Karnataka under the escort of Coast Guard Ship Rajdoot. All crew members were safe and rescue operation concluded successfully.
