On March 20, 2024, GITAM School of Pharmacy (GSP) in Hyderabad celebrated World Oral Health Day with the theme ‘A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Body’. The event featured Dr. Ramu Nomula, Root Canal (A.D.A) and Facial Trauma Care Specialist, as the chief guest, who emphasized the importance of oral hygiene in maintaining overall health.
During the event, Dr. Ramu highlighted the link between poor oral health and systemic health problems, noting that bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and affect other parts of the body. He stressed the importance of good oral hygiene practices, such as regular brushing and flossing, in preventing common dental problems like cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.

Dr. K.Mounika, a Cosmetic Dental Surgeon, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy mouth for proper digestion, self-esteem, and social interactions. She provided tips for good oral hygiene practices, including flossing daily, brushing twice a day, cleaning the tongue daily, limiting sugar intake, visiting the dentist regularly, and more.
The event also included an oral health awareness camp and a guest lecture organized in collaboration with GITAM Student Life and GITAM Pharmacy Student Association (GPSA). Prof. G.Shiva Kumar, Principal of GSP, welcomed the guests and Dr. Pavan Kumar Chintamaneni coordinated the event.
World Oral Health Day is observed on March 20 every year to increase awareness about the importance of oral health and its link to general health. The campaign focuses on promoting good oral hygiene practices to improve overall well-being.
