On March 19, 2024, GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad hosted a mesmerizing Mohiniyattam dance performance by the esteemed artist, Dr. Neena Prasad. The event was presented by the Directorate of Student Life in collaboration with SPIC MACAY Heritage Club.
The classical dance recital began with ‘Cholkettu’, a tribute to the guru, followed by a performance of ‘Vasundhara Sundara Dhara Bhoomi’. The evening also featured ‘Pada Varnana’ written by Pratibha Ray, and concluded with a ‘Thillana’, leaving the audience filled with joy.
The artists who performed alongside Dr. Neena Prasad were Madhavan Nampoothri CP (Vocals), Ramesh Babu KP (Mridangam), Arun Das CA (Idakka), and Kolanka Sai Kumar (Violin), adding depth and richness to the performance.
GITAM, Hyderabad, continues to promote and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of India through events like the Mohiniyattam recital.

TSACS Hosts Red Ribbon Club Peer Leaders Convention at GITAM
The Telangana State Aids Control Society (TSACS) in collaboration with the NSS Cell organized a one-day Red Ribbon Club Peer Leaders Convention on ‘HIV Prevention Through Life Skills Education’ at GITAM Deemed to be University in Hyderabad on March 19, 2024.
The convention saw the participation of key figures such as Pinapati Prasad, Additional Project Director, TSACS; Prof. Pingali Narasimha Rao, Dean, Kakitaya University; Dr. Chandra Reddy, Joint Director, TSACS; Dr. T.N.Swamy, Retd. Deputy Director, TSACS; G.Ramesh, Assistant Director (Youth Affairs); and DVVSR Varma, Resident Director, GITAM. These speakers shed light on the importance of HIV prevention through Life Skills and highlighted the alarming statistics of HIV cases globally, in India, and specifically in Telangana.
Experts emphasized on the ten essential life skills that can aid in HIV prevention, including self-awareness, problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking, communication, interpersonal skills, empathy, emotional coping, and stress management.
The speakers also discussed the various ways in which HIV can be transmitted and the impact it has on individuals. They shared stories of hope and resilience, encouraging HIV-positive individuals to utilize life skills to overcome challenges and lead fulfilling lives.
An elocution competition was held during the convention, and prizes were distributed to the winners. A HIV-positive individual since the age of seven, shared her personal journey and inspired attendees with her story.
The event was welcomed by GITAM NSS Coordinator Dr. P.V.Nagendra Kumar, the other coordinators, and students who actively participated in the sessions.
