Visakhapatnam: Zoo Park organizes awareness program on sparrows

World Sparrow Day on March 20, 2024, an awareness program on sparrows was organized on Sunday in the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam. In collaboration with Harita Vikas Foundation, Tuni, Rice Paddy Hangers were hanged in various places in the zoo to provide feed for the sparrows.

Dr. Nandani Salaria, Curator, IGZP started the program by hanging rice paddy to a tree. Sparrows are becoming extinct in the environment due to the current weather conditions and there is a need to preserve them, said Curator Dr. Nandani Salaria. Every creature on the earth is very necessary in nature and it is the responsibility of everyone to protect them and preserve the biodiversity.

The visitors to the zoo were informed about the importance of sparrows and the need for conservation and were given Rice paddy hangers. More than 500 rice paddy hangers are tied to various trees in the zoo. Smt. Mangamma, DCF, IGZP, Assistant Curator Shri. Gopala Naidu, Forest Section Officers Smt. Bharathi, Sh. Rajeswara Rao, founder of Harita Vikas Foundation Sh. Dalinaidu and Zoo education team participated in this program.
