Director General Indian Coast Guard attends 18th Governing Council meeting on Piracy Treaty (Recap) at Information Sharing Center in Singapore
New Delhi 13 Mar 24: The Indian high level delegation led by DG Rakesh Pal, AVSM, PTM, TM, Director General Indian Coast Guard,Indian Governor to the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP)Information Sharing Centre (ISC)is participating in the 18thedition of the Governing Council Meeting (GCM)from 12-15 Mar 24 at Singapore.
It is significant to highlight that, the Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai is designated as the Focal Point (FP) India under the ReCAAP. The Governing Council Meeting is an annual affair conducted by ReCAAP ISC at Singapore and serves as platform for policy dialogue, information sharing, and capacity building to safeguard maritime trade routes and ensure the safety and security of seafarers in the region.

The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) is the first Government to Government Agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation against Piracy and Armed Robbery in Asia. This multilateral agreement consist of 21contracting parties and India is one of the key founding members.The agreement signifies cooperation between thecontracting governments under three pillars namely Information Exchange, Cooperative Arrangements and Capacity Building.
The annual Governing Council Meeting works as an ideal medium for India to promote our national maritime objectives and collectively tackle the menace of Piracy and Armed Robbery at sea in Asia and beyond.During the three days meeting, various issues of significance and policy decision to address contemporary challenges of Piracy and Armed Robbery are being discussed and avenues for further cooperation are being explored through framing of agenda.
This multilateral platform will go a long way in enhancing maritime cooperation between the ReCAAP contracting members.This edition ofGoverning Councilmeeting is witnessing participation of the respective Governors from all contracting parties and external participants in the forum which include 14 Asian countries, FiveEuropean Nations, Australia and the United States of America.
