In Telangana, lakhs of devotees thronged the biennial tribal fair Sammakka-Sarakka jatara held at Medaram in Mulugu district amidst elaborate arrangements. The jatara, which started with the arrival of Saraakka at the platforms two days ago, picked up momentum on Friday with the arrival of goddess Sammakka.

A huge number of devotees thronged the tribal fair, since both the goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma were seen at the platform at the Jatara. Besides having darshan of goddesses, pilgrims offered jaggery equivalent to their weight and other offerings to the goddesses.

Many VIPs visited the festival and made offerings. State Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan visited the Medaram Tribla shrine on Friday to have darshan of the tribal deities. This is her third visit to the jatara. She paid homage to Sammakka and Saralamma by offering sarees.

Speaking to the media, she said she sought the blessing of the goddesses for the prosperity of both the nation and the State. She also extended her wishes to the tribal communities, lauding the Medaram Jatara as an unparalleled testament to indigenous culture and heritage.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda visited the tribal fair and sanctioned 2.3 crore rupees for the Medaram Jatara to promote its tribal culture and heritage.
