In Ladakh, Kargil district, including Drass, has witnessed a substantial snowfall, recording over 1 foot of snow in Drass alone. The Meteorological Department forecasts the snowfall to persist until the late night of February 20th.

Mohd Amin Polo, a prominent sports activist and winter sports expert, expressed the community’s joy, stating that residents have eagerly awaited such heavy snowfall for years. The anticipation is not only for the picturesque landscapes but also for the positive impact on summer greenery.

Despite the beauty, travel has been significantly impacted, with all roads in Kargil closed for traffic, except the Kargil-Srinagar Road at Zojjila and Kargil-Zanskar Road at Penzilla.

Locals are particularly excited about the potential boost to snow sports activities in Drass, as the fresh snowfall creates ideal conditions for enthusiasts
