SCR Registers it’s best-ever Performance in Freight Segmentin January 2024

The Zone achieved 13.122 MTs of Originating freight loading in January 2024, the highest in any month since SCR’s formation.

SCR also recorded Rs 1,296.73 Crores in Originating Freight Revenue, highest-ever monthly earnings since its inception

Taking the freight performance of South Central Railway to the next level, the Zone recorded it’s best-ever monthly performance in freight segment during January 2024. The Zone achieved 131.22 Million Tonnes of Originating Loading during the month of January 2024, which is the highest-ever loading recorded in any month. The previous best was 12.517 MTs of Originating loading achieved during May 2023. Also, the freight loading has witnessed 7% growth when compared to the last year same month i.e., Jan 2023.

The record performance in loading was also matched by the performance in earnings as well. SCR achieved Rs. 1,296.73 Crore in Originating Freight Revenue during January 2024, the highest-ever monthly earnings in freight segment since its inception. The previous best was Rs 1,280.77 Crore revenue earned during December 2022. Compared to previous year in the same month, the revenue in January 2024, is 6.4 % higher.

Coal, the major loading commodity of the Zone contributed its best with 6.497 MTs transported during the month, while Cement loading has been at 3.278 MTs. Other significant commodities which have contributed towards overall freight loading of SCR include: Foodgrains (0.851 MTs), Fertilizers (0.851MTs), Iron Ore (0.423 MTs), Raw materials for steel plants (0.375 MTs), Containers (0.200 MTs) and Other Goods (0.647 MTs). The Zone has been giving special thrust towards strengthening its freight traffic by implementing wide variety of initiatives and special measures. The Zone has been moving in a proactive manner to streamline the supply of wagons, monitoring the movement of freight trains etc.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has complimented the Operating and Commercial teams for this outstanding achievement. He stated that in spite of the Zone operating several special trains like Sankranti Specials, Sabarimala Specials, etc along with major infrastructure works, meticulous planning of both Passenger and freight operations has led to this stupendous achievement. He commended the efforts of all team members who have contributed to this significant achievement and advise to maintain the same tempo to achieve record annual performance in the freight segment during the current financial year.
