Hyderabad: GATE; A Gateway for PSUs and Other Career Opportunities

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is not only a pathway to postgraduate programs in prestigious institutions, but it also opens doors to a wide range of employment opportunities in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Research Centers, Universities, and other technical disciplines.

M.M.Trinath, Faculty at ACE Engineering Academy, Hyderabad emphasized the significance of GATE in shaping the future of engineering graduates during his invited talk on ‘Career Opportunities in PSUs’ at GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad on Saturday. The event was organized by the GITAM Career Guidance Centre (GCGC) as part of its ‘Other Career Options’ initiative.

Trinath highlighted that clearing GATE not only enables students to pursue their master’s from premier technical institutes in India such as IISc, IITs, IIITs, and NITs, but also guarantees a secure job in PSUs and other career opportunities. He emphasized the abundance of job opportunities for fresh engineering graduates in major PSUs in India, where GATE serves as the mandatory exam for basic qualification. Additionally, he noted that non-PSU central government organizations like DRDO, ISRO, and BARC also hire candidates based on GATE scores, offering an average stipend of Rs 12,400 to Rs 28,000 for GATE-qualified students.

Trinath advised aspiring engineers to consider pursuing their master’s degree in premier institutions in India or abroad, emphasizing the potential for a high return on investment. He pointed out that GATE-qualified students can pursue their master’s degree by spending only one lakh (after deducting the stipend) and may secure a job with an annual salary of Rs. 45 lakhs, which is more favorable than spending Rs. 40 lakhs for a degree from abroad.

During the event, Trinath also provided insights into the services offered by ACE Engineering Academy and addressed queries from the students.
