Over 70 million tonnes of coal should be produced & transported to meet energy requirements of the country: CMD N. Balaram
Mr. N. Balaram, Chairman and MD SCCL ordered that the production of 70 million tonnes of coal set in this financial year must be achieved under any circumstances to meet the energy needs of the country and the state. He spoke at a review meeting held on the progress of coal production and new projects through video conference from Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday.
The CMD clarified that the demand for electricity will be maximum in the coming summer, and in this context, enough coal should be transported to all the thermal power stations that have an agreement with Singareni to enable the thermal power stations to generate electricity uninterruptedly.
He said that in order to reach the target of 70 million tonnes set for this financial year, there is still a need to produce and transport 140 lakh tonnes of coal in the remaining two months. He said that if coal production is not reduced to at least 2.3 lakh tonnes per day, the set targets can be reached.

Also, conducting a review on new projects, the CMD directed the concerned officials to pay special attention to the forest and environment permits required for the opening of the Naini Coal Block in Odisha, VK Coal Mine in Kottagudem area, Goleti OC in Bellampally area and JK OC mine in Illandu area to be undertaken this financial year.
He said that these projects with a total capacity of 19.80 million tonnes need to be started as soon as possible. Also, they want to intensify efforts for permissions regarding RG Coal Mine in Ramagundam-3 area and MVK OC in Bellampally area, which are to be started in the next financial year.
