India increases its tally of Ramsar sites to 80 by adding 5 more wetlands to list: Bhupender Yadav
Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav today said that India has increased its tally of Ramsar sites to 80 by adding five more wetlands to the list. In a social media post, the Minister said that with two days to go for World Wetlands Day, India has increased its tally of Ramsar Sites from 75 to 80. He met Secretary General of Ramsar Convention, Dr Musonda Mumba who handed over the certificates of the five sites.
The Minister said the emphasis that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put on environmental protection and conservation has led to a paradigm shift in how India treats its wetlands. He added that this is reflected in the Amrit Dharohar initiative envisioned by the Prime Minister.
Mr Yadav congratulated the States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka whose wetlands have made it to the list of Ramsar Sites
