Hyderabad: Thyagaraja Aradhana held at GITAM

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHS) recently held a vibrant and captivating celebration of the Aradhana of saint composer Thyagaraja. The festival, which took place on Tuesday, was inaugurated by Prof. D.S. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Sunny Gosman Jose, Director, GSHS, who paid tributes to Sri Tyagaraja Swamy by lighting the lamp.

The prime aim of the program was to immerse the audience in the exquisite melodies of Tyagaraja Pancharatna Kritis during the Tyagaraja Aradhana. The event featured music concerts and performances, including Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, and vocal performances, all of which received enthusiastic applause from the attendees.

Addressing the event, Prof. D.S. Rao emphasized the importance of spreading and popularizing the ‘kritis’ of Thyagaraja, and expressed his delight at the enthralling performances.

The event was supported by the Dancers – Dr. Y. Lalitha Sindhuri, Dr. Sindhuja, Yoshita Buddha for Kuchipudi, Dr. Akshaya Janardhanan for Bharatanatyam, Dr. Mythili Anoop for Mohiniyattam; Vocalists – I Swetha Prasad K. Chander Rao, Lasya Priya, Manogna, and Jypthirmayee along with instrumentalists – I.V. Renuka Prasad, T.P. Balasubramaniam, and K L N Murthy.

The Thyagaraja Aradhana at GITAM was a resounding success, showcasing the beauty and cultural richness of the compositions of Thyagaraja.
