India hammered Ireland by 201 runs in Bloemfontein on Thursday (January 25) to solidify their chances of finishing top of the table. Put in to bat, India were driven by Musheer Khan’s splendid ton (118 off 106) and his 156-run stand with skipper Uday Saharan (75 off 84). Cameos from Aravelly Avanish (22 off 13) and Sachin Dhas (21 off 9) ensured that the foundation set by the big partnership was maximised at the back end. The initial 20 overs saw India’s batters taking their time but as conditions eased for batting, they made hay to register a 300-plus score.

India’s bowlers complemented their batters’ ruthless approach with a clinical show and before they knew it, Ireland found themselves at 45/8. Naman Tiwari (4-53) blew the top order away while the others kept chipping away at the wickets. Saumy Pandey (3-21) continued his good form in the tournament. Daniel Forkin and Oliver Riley stitched a little stand to ensure that Ireland somehow got to three figures but that was little respite for them.Brief scores: India 301/7 in 50 overs (Musheer Khan 118, Uday Saharan 75; Oliver Riley 3-55) beat Ireland 100 in 29.4 overs (Naman Tiwari 4-53, Saumy Pandey 3-21) by 201 runs.
