Overall coal production is likely to surpass one billion tonnes this year: Pralhad Joshi

Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that the energy security of the nation needs to be further reinforced by focusing on ‘coal production and offtake’ since India’s per capita electricity consumption is likely to double by 2030.

Mr Joshi said, domestic coal production and availability have gone up substantially in recent years due to a series of innovative measures adopted by the Ministry. He said this while chairing the consultative committee meeting of the Ministry of Coal.

Mr Joshi said, overall coal production is likely to surpass one billion tonnes this year. The Minister said, ninety-one Coal Mines have been successfully auctioned so far under commercial coal mine auction.
