In Tamilnadu, passengers of the Senthur Express Train who were rescued and have started their journey to Chennai from Maniyachi. As the flood waters have been pumped out from Tirunelveli junction, rail services have been partially restored. 

According to the State Transport Minister Sivasankar, the process of evacuating them is still continuing. The passengers will be taken to their destination by State Transport buses. The Minister said pilgrims stranded at the Tiruchendur temple will be taken through an alternate route to Tirunelveli free of cost.

The Coast Guard has sent two helicopters carrying more than 600 kilos of relief materials for distribution this morning. The pregnant woman who was rescued by the Indian Airforce delivered a baby boy safely at the Madurai Government Hospital.

Though flood waters have receded, agricultural fields remain flooded. The Central Team is also visiting the flood hit areas of Tuticorin and Tirunelveli presently. In Tuticorin, hundreds of villages are still reeling in floods. 

Southern Railway today announced cancellation of three trains and partial cancellation of another two trains which run between Kanyakumari and Tiruchendur.

Bus transport services to Tirunelveli have been restored and will serve free for stranded passengers from Tiruchendur and other flood hit areas.

Tamilnadu Governor R.N. Ravi yesterday chaired a review meeting at Chennai on the flood situation in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and neighbouring districts. He reviewed the rescue and relief operations carried out by the Central agencies and defence forces in flood hit areas.

The Indian Coast Guard said that rescue operations had been carried out with the help of ten teams. IAF officials appraised that the rescue operation was carried out through Kayaks and Dornier aircraft. The Indian Navy officials updated that Naval personnel were deployed from INS Kattabomman and INS Parundu.

The Governor asked them to mobilise additional standby resources and ensured that he will facilitate additional resources from central agencies. The Governor’s office said that there was no official to represent the State Government. But Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena in an interaction with the media said that an official has been sent.
