Indian Coast Guard Joins State Efforts for Flood Relief in Tamil Nadu
The State Government has also sought the assistance of the Indian Coast Guard for the rescue of stranded citizens and supply of relief material. Six disaster relief teams from the Coast Guard have been deployed at Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts.
An offshore patrol vessel with an integral helicopter onboard has been deployed to monitor the situation. The Coast Guard has positioned a Dornier Aircraft and an ALH helicopter at Madurai for rescue and relief missions in flood-affected areas and also to transport key NDRF personnel from Chennai.
The Sendur Express train which began its journey from Tiruchendur to Chennai has been stranded at Srivaikuntam for the past 24 hours. Efforts are on to rescue the passengers.
In another development, there is an emergency meeting headed by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin who is in Delhi along with the senior ministers and the district collectors to assess the rain-related situation.
