Hyderabad: G. Prasad Kumar unanimously elected as Speaker of third Assembly of Telangana

Ruling Congress legislator and former minister G. Prasad Kumar has been unanimously elected as Speaker of the third Assembly of Telangana. Pro-Tem Speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi announced this on the floor of the house this morning.

Over 20 nominations have been filed in his name electing him unopposed. Prasad Kumar has assured the members that he will make all-out efforts to ensure fruitful discussions to address the public issues and protect the rights of the members, on both ruling and opposition sides.

He exuded confidence that members of all sides will extend cooperation for the same in a democratic way in maintaining the traditions of the house. 
 
Earlier, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, his deputy Bhatti Vikramarka, BRS MLA KT Rama Rao, and floor leaders of various parties conducted him to the Speaker’s chair. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister thanked all the parties for supporting his candidature.
 
Representing Vikarabad-SC constituency, Prasad Kumar, had served as a minister during the Congress regime in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
 
Meanwhile, Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan will be addressing the combined session of Telangana Assembly and the Council tomorrow.
