Hyderabad: GITAM to Conduct Hands-On Workshop on ‘Essentials of Small Animal Handling’

GITAM School of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Laboratory Animal Scientists’ Association (India) and IPA Students’ Forum, is pleased to announce a two-day hands-on workshop on ‘Essentials of Small Animal Handling.’ The workshop will take place at the GITAM School of Pharmacy campus on December 20-21, 2023.

The workshop aims to provide participants with hands-on experience in basic techniques for handling small laboratory animals used in biomedical research. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn essential skills such as sexing and handling of small laboratory animals for intervention procedures. Additionally, they will gain experience in techniques related to fluid withdrawal and drug/test compound administration. Participants will also have the invaluable opportunity to interact with distinguished scientists specializing in laboratory animal sciences, regulatory affairs, and clinical and preclinical toxicology.

Distinguished speakers at the workshop include Dr. Prakash Babu Phanithi, Senior Professor and Dean, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad, who will deliver a talk on ‘Recent trends in Drug Discovery for Cancer Treatment.’ Dr. M. Jerald Mahesh Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad, and Prof. N.Harishankar, Retired Scientist ‘E’, ICMR-NIN, Hyderabad, will also be present as resource persons.

The workshop is open to scholars conducting research in the field of Life Sciences and Pharmacy, as well as students of Pharmacy, Biology, and Medical Sciences. Participants will gain valuable insights and practical skills that will enhance their understanding and expertise in this important field.
