Severe Cyclonic Storm Michaung crosses south Andhra Pradesh coast close to south of Bapatla

The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Michaung” that crossed south Andhra Pradesh coast close to Bapatla this afternoon is currently positioned at about 25 km southwest of Baptla and 60 km northeast of Ongole in Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone system is likely to move northwards and weaken into a depression during the next 06 hours.

With the cyclone system heading towards Central Andhra Pradesh, districts of NTR, Krishna, West Godavari, Eluru, Konaseema and Kakinada are receiving heavy rainfall. Rainfall in the northern part of Andhra Pradesh around Visakhapatnam region is expected to increase past midnight.

With rainfall subsiding in severely affected Nellore and Tirupati districts, restoration measures are being taken up at brisk pace. Diversion measures are being undertaken on the Nellore-Chennai to clear the traffic jams caused due to flooding.

NDRF is also taking rescue measures in the 17 severely affected mandals of Tirupati district. The state government has assured compensation of 27,000 rupees per hectares to farmers who lost their crop due to the cyclone.

Adequate food and medical support are being given to people in cyclone relief centres. Special Cyclone officers appointed for each district are closely monitoring the rescue and relief operations. Sri Sai Akashvani News, Vijayawada
