Counting of votes underway for Mizoram Assembly Elections
The counting of votes for assembly elections in Mizoram is underway. Counting began at 8 am for all 40 seats, with postal ballots being counted first, followed by votes polled in EVMs. Trends are available for 40 seats.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) is leading in 7 constituencies, while the main opposition party Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is ahead in 29. BJP is leading in 3 constituencies, while Congress is ahead in 1.
A total of 174 candidates, including 18 female candidates, were in the fray. The MNF, ZPM and Congress contested 40 seats each, while BJP contested 23 seats and Aam Aadmi Party tried their luck in 4 seats. There were also 27 independent candidates. The counting in the state was supposed to take place yesterday but it was postponed till today following appeals by political parties and social organizations.
