Vice President inaugurates 5th Global Ayurveda Festival in Thiruvananthapuram
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar inaugurated the 5th Global Ayurveda Festival at Green Field Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Friday (1st December 2023). In his inaugural address, Mr.Dhankar said that the Government of India has played a pivotal role in fostering the growth and global recognition of Ayurveda. He said that India stands as a global leader in Ayurveda, with rich legacy of knowledge and practice that spans millennia.
Vice President further added that the establishment of a dedicated AYUSH Ministry, the observance of National Ayurveda Day, and the integration of Ayurveda into the National Education Policy are testaments to the government’s commitment to Ayurveda’s advancement.
He said that under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres are being established across the country by Ministry of AYUSH. The Vice President added that the Ayush Industry which was about 20 thousand crore rupees 8 years ago has reached about 1.5 lakh crore rupees today. He said that Kerala, that hosts the 5th Global Ayurveda Festival, is renowned as a cradle of Ayurvedic excellence.
He also emphasized that Kerala’s Ayurveda tourism not only promotes well-being but also contributes significantly to the state’s economic growth. Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan presided over the function and many dignitaries including Shashi Tharoor MP attended the event.
The Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) 2023 will be held in the state capital of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram from December 1-5, on the theme ‘Emerging Challenges in Healthcare and a Resurgent Ayurveda’. The largest ever conclave on Ayurveda, GAF 2023 will witness the gathering of international practitioners of this alternative medicine, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore its impact in healthcare.
