Syed Modi International 2023: Priyanshu Rajawat, Kiran George, and Sathish Karunakaran enter the second round of Men’s singles
In the Syed Modi India International badminton tournament in Lucknow, India’s Kidambi Srikanth bowed out with a straight-game loss in the opening round but young Unnati Hooda shocked compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap to make it to the second round.
In other men’s singles matches, Priyanshu Rajawat, Kiran George, and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran entered the second round. Unnati rallied her way to a stunning 15-21, 21-19, 21-18 win over Kashyap in the Round of 32. She will next face Japan’s former world champion Nozomi Okuhara.
Anupama Upadhyaya and Ashmita Chaliha also progressed in the women’s singles.
In women’s doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto notched up a 21-8, 21-9 win over compatriot Samriddhi Singh and Sonali Singh in the first round. The pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela also advanced Women’s doubles.
In mixed doubles, seasoned Ashwini Ponnappa and her partner Rohan Kapoor entered the second round.
Also, the Sumeeth Kumar Reddy – Sikki Reddy’s pair tasted success, beating Taiwan’s Hsuan-Yi Wu and Chu Yun 21-14, 21-14 to enter the second round.
In Men’s Doubles, Chirag Sen also teamed up successfully with Dhruv Rawat against Vimalraj Annadurai and Navin Prasanth Eswaramoorthy to enter the second round after winning 22-24, 21-13, 21-17.
