MH: President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates national conference on integration of Yoga in School Education System
President Droupadi Murmu has said that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India to the world community. She was speaking after inaugurating a national conference on integration of Yoga in School Education System organized by Kaivalyadhama as part of its centenary year celebrations at Lonavala in Maharashtra today.
The President said that since 2015, Yoga Day has been celebrated every year in most of the countries. She highlighted the United Nations General Assembly resolution which said the practice of yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being and is beneficial for the health of the entire world community. The President stated that in the National Education Policy 2020, Indian knowledge tradition has been given a significant place with the aim to help yoga benefits reach the young generation.
The President said that yoga is the path to overall development of an individual and is considered an effective means of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual progress. She stated that in the 20th century, great personalities like Swami Kuvalayananda publicized the scientific approach and utility of the yoga system.
President Murmu said that Swami Kuvalayanand ji used to give great importance to the spread of yoga education in schools. She expressed confidence that Kaivalya Vidya Niketan, a school run by Kaivalyadhama Sansthan, will set examples and inspire other schools. She also expressed confidence that ‘Kaivalyadhama’ will continue to be the effective confluence of yoga tradition and science.
Founded by Swami Kuvalayananda in 1924, Kaivalyadhama is one of the oldest pioneering yoga institutes in the world. It follows the principles and philosophy of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. Kaivalyadhama is the first Yoga institute to proactively conduct scientific research to demonstrate the benefits and uses of Yoga.
