Hyderabad: All security arrangements in place for assembly polls in Telangana today

In Telangana, amids elaborate security arrangements, over 3 crore 26 lakh elector will cast their vote in 35 thousand 655 polling stations across 119 constituencies in the state from 7 am to 5 pm in 106 constituencies and from 7 am to 4 pm in 13 Left Wing Extremism affected areas.

A total 2,290 contestants are in the fray in the youngest state of India. Over 12 thousand polling stations have been identified as sensitive. Over 2 lakh 8 thousand staff have been pressed into service on poll duty.

A total 2290 candidates are in the fray while the ruling BRS is contesting in all 119 constituencies while the Congress is contesting in 118 along with CPI in one seat. BJP contested in 111 while its ally, Janasena contested in 8 seats. CPIM is in fray in 19 constituencies while BSP is in 106 constituencies. Over 990 Independents also competed. Among the total 2290 candidates, 221 women and One transgender.

Meanwhile, ahead of polling, the Election Commission of India suspended Musheerabad Inspector of Police, Jahangir Yadav, Chkkadapally ACP A. Yadagiri and SCP M. Venkateshwarlu in Hyderabad for dereliction of duties. This is in reference to a case related to the seizure of 18 lakh rupees in cash in Musheerabad constituency.
