India and Australia set for a five-match T20 International series
Just days after playing the ODI World Cup final, India and Australia are set for a five-match T20 International series from November 23. The last game will be played on December 3.
The Indian cricket team will take the field without a full-strength squad after the majority of its senior players who featured in the month-long 50-over World Cup were rested for the upcoming India vs Australia T20 bilateral series.
Suryakumar Yadav will captain India in the absence of full-time skipper Rohit Sharma. Suryakumar Yadav is the only Indian player in the squad that played the World Cup final on November 19, where India went down to Australia by six wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the vice-captain for the first three matches.
Shreyas Iyer will join the team for the fourth and fifth T20Is and take over the duties from Ruturaj. The young Indian lineup also features Ishan Kishan, Yashaswi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh.
Australia has also given time off to their first-choice players such as David Warner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.
The opening match will be played in Vishakapatnam. The rest of the T20 series will be played in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Raipur and Bengaluru. The last time former T20 world champions India faced Australia in the shorter format was in September last year when hosts India won the series 2-1.
