In Uttrakhand, rescue operations are underway to save 41 trapped workers in Uttarkashi’s Silkyara Tunnel. The relief and rescue operations are being continuously monitored by the Prime Minister’s Office. Five evacuation schemes are being worked on for the workers. Currently, one of the schemes is being executed with great urgency while plans are being made to quickly execute the other four schemes.

Today, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site of the recent incident. They took stock of the relief and rescue work along with Chief Secretary S.S Sandhu.

On the other hand yesterday, Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Mangesh Ghildiyal,  former advisor to the Prime Minister Bhaskar Khulbe, and OSD to the Government of Uttarakhand, and concerned officials and experts held a meeting with Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited Anshu Manish Khalko, which is responsible for constructing the tunnel. They discussed the incident and other related matters in detail.

Talking to the press, Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Mangesh Ghildiyal stated that the Government is actively exploring alternative methods, and is seeking suggestions and advice from experts worldwide. Former advisor to the Prime Minister Bhaskar Khulbe, also confirmed that work on all four schemes and others will commence soon.

Currently, the administration is in contact with all the workers trapped in the tunnel and has confirmed their safety. Food, medicine, and adequate oxygen are being supplied to them through pipes. It should be noted that on the 12th of November, due to a landslide inside the tunnel, 41 workers were trapped, while various agencies from across the country are being deployed for their rescue.
