Farmers of Kargil are very excited for this special recognition for Sea Buckthorn, one of the most profitable crop of UT Ladakh having 90 % production from Ladakh in India.

Er. Ahmad Ali, CEO Rangyoul Organic Producer Company Ltd, the first Farmer Producer Organization of Kargil, thanked the Government of India for granting GI Tagging to Sea Buckthorn.

He also thanked LG Ladakh, and Ladakh UT administration for pursuing the case on a priority basis for the overall benefit of the Farmers Community.

Ahmad said that after Ladakh became Union Territory, all the sectors made tremendous progress but Agriculture Sector has got special attention from the Government Sector and as a result, out of the Four GI tagging, two products are from Horticulture Sector directly related to Farmers.

He hoped that now there will be a special focus on this wonder fruit plant and there is lots of scope for Area Extension and value addition of the product, which if happens, would directly benefit the farmers.
