The expert team of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) has found fault with the planning and design of the Medigadda barrage and stated that a combination of issues involving planning, design, quality control, and operation and maintenance led to the damage.
The team examined recently the sinking of peirs in block-7 of the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project in Telangana. The team held a meeting with the authorities of the Irrigation Department during its visit.
The 43-page report sent to the Principal Secretary in Irrigation Dr Rajat Kumar, has criticised the state government and it has mentioned that information on only 11 of the 20 aspects (data/inputs) were submitted by the State Government.
The report also felt that the reconstruction work has to be taken up from the foundation level of the barrage. It also advised not to use the barrage till the problem was resolved completely.
