Asian Para Games: India’s overall medal haul surges to historic 100-medal mark

In the Asian Para Games at Hangzhou in China, India’s overall medal haul has surged to a historic 100-medal mark, comprising 26 gold, 29 silver, and 45 bronze. Dilip Gavit kickstarted today’s medal streak by helping India reach the coveted three-figure mark. He secured gold in the men’s T-47 400m event with a time of 49.48 secs. This remarkable feat supersedes India’s previous best of 72 medals, which was recorded in the 2018 edition of the Asian Para Games in Indonesia.

The Indian duo Nitesh Kumar and Tarun won gold in men’s doubles SL3-SL4 badminton. In men’s Badminton singles SL3 event, India dominated with two podium finishes. Pramod Bhagat secured the coveted gold, while Nitesh Kumar brought home the Silver. In Badminton women’s singles SU5 category, Thulasimathi clinched gold, defeating China’s Quixia Yang, with a score of 2-0. Earlier, in the men’s 1500m T-38 event, Raman Sharma bagged gold clocking an impressive 4:20.80.
