PM Modi to launch Nation’s first Regional Rapid Transit System

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first RAPIDX train under India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh today. The Prime Minister will also preside over a public programme in Sahibabad where he will address the gathering. He will also dedicate to the nation two stretches of east west corridor of Bengaluru Metro today. The RRTS is a state-of-the-art regional mobility solution comparable to the best in the world.
 
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the priority section of the RRTS corridor today which will cover the distance of 17 kilometers connecting Sahibabad to ‘Duhai Depot’ with stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai on the way. 

The trains will run at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour at an interval of 15 minutes. The RAPIDX train has six coaches with the capacity to carry about one thousand 700 commuters. One coach has been reserved for women passengers. The First Train in both directions will commence operations at 6 AM and the Last Train to depart from stations in both directions will be at 11 PM.

The service for general public will be operational from tomorrow. Each RAPIDX train will also have one Premium coach with a host of additional commuter-centric features like reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders and footrests.

The train will have a host of commuter-centric features for a safe and comfortable regional commute. These include 2×2 transverse seating, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, mobile charging facility and auto control ambient lighting system. While a ticket for a seat in the standard coach costs 20 rupees, passengers have to shell out double that amount to enjoy a ride in the premium coach.

Managing Director of National Capital Region Transport Corporation, Vinay Kumar Singh, said  Unified Payments Interface (UPI) enabled ticket vending machines have been installed at Stations to purchase paper QR tickets and recharge the National Common Mobility Card. The passengers can also purchase tickets from the Ticket counters at the RAPIDX stations.

Special features of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) are:

1. Design speed of 180 Kmph. Travel time from Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour.

2. High-speed trains for intercity commuting every 15 minutes.

3. Boosting Aatmanirbhar Bharat – All train sets used in RRTS are made in India.

4. Contactless entry/exit with automatic fare collection using Rupay NCMC card/QR based ticketing.

5. Employs state-of-the-art signalling system (European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2) on Long-Term Evolution (LTE) backbone which enables Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Platform screen door (PSD) integration, making it the first in the world to employ such technology.

6. Clean and comfortable journey especially for women, children and Divyangjans.

7. Extensive multi-modal integration with Metro stations, Railway stations, Bus services etc

8. Multiple long-term benefits – Boost to economic activity, improved access to employment, education & healthcare opportunities and reduction of air pollution
