BJP & INC announces list of candidates for Chhatisgarh elections

In Chhattisgarh, Bharatiya Janata Party has so far announced 85 candidates for the assembly elections while the ruling Congress has declared a list of 30 candidates. There are a total of 90 seats in the state assembly. Elections will be held in the State in two phases. 

In the first phase, 20 assembly constituencies in the most Maoist-affected areas will go to polls on 07th November, and in the second phase on November 17, voting will be held in the rest of the 70 assembly constituencies.

Meanwhile, intensive search operations are being conducted by the Police and Excise Department in the border areas to strictly enforce the model code of conduct.

In Chhattisgarh, the Election Commission is acting tough to stop the flow of liquor to lure voters during assembly polls. Intensive searches of vehicles coming from other states are being conducted in 31 check posts established by the Excise Department in the border areas of Chhattisgarh. The department has also formed flying squads to search the vehicles. Various railway stations, trains, bus stands and buses are also being intensively checked by the Excise Department staff in collaboration with the Railway Police and State Police.

More than 25 thousand liters of liquor worth about Rs 75 lakh have so far been seized by the department. Besides, a large quantity of Mahua and Ganja has also been recovered. The department has also issued a toll-free number – 14405 to give information about illegal transportation of liquor.
