Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurates Pre-P20 summit in New Delhi
A pre-P20 summit namely Parliamentary Forum on LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) has begin in New Delhi. Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries are attending the event. They will deliberate upon initiatives towards a greener and more sustainable future in harmony with nature.
Inaugurating the pre-summit event, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, today no country in the world is untouched by the ill effects of climate change. He said, Mission LiFE is a comprehensive approach towards environmental protection. In Indian culture, environment has been considered an integral part of human life. The Speaker said, Climate change is linked to the future of the entire world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) tomorrow at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The summit is being hosted by the Parliament of India under the broader framework of India’s G20 Presidency.
In line with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, the theme of the 9th P20 Summit is Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future. The Pan-African Parliament will take part in the P20 Summit for the first time after the African Union became a member of G20 at the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit.
The thematic sessions during this P20 Summit will focus on four subjects. These are transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platforms, Women-led development, Accelerating SDGs, and Sustainable Energy Transition.
