Sikkim Floods: Death toll rises to 30 including 09 Indian army personnel with 81 missing in glacial Lhonak Lake outburst

According to Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) confirmed death toll from flash floods in Sikkim rose to 30 including 09 Indian army personnel with 81 missing after the glacial-fed Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim triggered a flash flood in teesta river basin on October 4.

A total of 1320 houses were severely damaged and 2563 people were rescued, 26 persons were injured, 1173 pucca and kutcha houses were fully and severely damaged, 91 pucca houses were partially damaged, and 96 Kutcha houses were partially damaged to date.

A total of 30 relief camps are open and 7025 people are in relief camps. Due to flash floods in the Teesta river basin, 13 bridges were washed away. Ajay Kumar Mishra, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, visited the flash flood-devastated areas in Rangpo today. He is in Sikkim for a two-day visit to various flood-affected areas.

The Union Minister of State paid a visit to the devastated areas in Bardang and Rangpo while offering his assistance to the state. He then addressed the officials concerning the responsibilities and the difficulties encountered while surveying the locations.

He was accompanied by D.C Pakyong, Mr. Tashi Chophel, ADC Pakyong, and Ms. Anupa Tamling, along with officials from various departments.
